Rotarians from our 61 clubs: As you know, our collective fund raising goal from among our 61 clubs is $1,000,000. This is an enormous undertaking and will only be successful with all of us pulling together. Why is this important? Quite simply, we have an opportunity to save thousands of lives, especially children. More than 6,000 children die each day throughout the world. We can – and I dare say we SHOULD – help prevent some of those deaths. The children of the world are depending on us. Let’s not disappoint them. Last year, working together, we raised more than $654,000 for Our Rotary Foundation. We need a 53% increased investment from all of us to reach our goal – but it certainly is possible given the dedication, commitment, and resources of Rotarians here in Minnesota. What does 53% mean? For some it might mean moving from the typical $200 per Rotarian per year donation to $306 – less than 29 cents a day. For others it might mean moving to the Paul Harris Society level – a lifetime commitment of minimum U.S. $1,000 annually. For still others it might mean serious consideration of a major gift -- $10,000+ -- either as a one-time investment, or as something to repeated on a regular basis. And make no mistake, our donations are literally an investment – just look at the results: The 99.99% eradication of polio – but we still need to finish the job… safe water and sanitation for children in Haiti… literacy and humanitarian projects sponsored by a number of our clubs… scholars studying in a variety of countries… our Group Study Exchange Teams… neighborhood community service projects… and on and on. It would be difficult to find a more efficient or a more effective charitable organization As a matter-of-fact, Our Rotary Foundation was recently named among the Top 5 most effective and responsible charitable organizations in the world by The London Financial times.
