Brooklyn Center Rotary
Meetings: Tuesday @ 12:00 PM Crowne Plaza, 2200 Freeway Blvd., Brooklyn Center, MN
President:
Scott Bechtold scott-asp-usa.com Vice President: Jeff Carson bak@carsons.net Club Mailing Address: RI Club Number: 2103 Club Login The Rotary Club of Brooklyn Center was chartered in February 1978 by the Minneapolis #9 Rotary Club. Three charter members remain active from the original 25.
Minneapolis #9 Rotary Club chartered Brooklyn Center with the understanding that Brooklyn Center would charter three more clubs. They were Crystal-New Hope-Robbinsdale, chartered in 1980, Brooklyn Park in 1981 and Maple Grove in 1990.
Currently, Brooklyn Center Rotary has 27 members. Each February, the club meets to set their goals and objectives for the coming year. From that meeting, the Board establishes the year’s program and budget.
For the past 3 years, the Club’s main project has been to provide funding for the Brooklyn Center High School Band Program. Last fall, the “Grammy Foundation” recognized the school’s Jazz Band and its director with a $15,000 award. They were also invited to Washington, D. C. where they received formal recognition at a Congressional Banquet and Reception.
In addition, our Rotary Club recognizes Brooklyn Center High School students with Students of the Month awards; sends students to Camp Enterprise which is a weekend seminar to teach about free enterprise, and awards post secondary scholarships.
Our community service emphasis has provided the City of Brooklyn Center with portable defibrillators for City Hall, the Community Center and the Police Department. The Club also supports the Crime Prevention Fund and a semi-annual cleanup of Brooklyn Center’s Central Park.
Further community service is reflected in our involvement with the City’s annual Earle Brown Days Celebration by sponsoring the Arts & Crafts Fair, and hosting the Fun & Games event in the park.
The club also participates in the Meals on Wheels Program for shut-ins; helps the Salvation Army with Bell Ringers and Christmas Carols at the local senior care facility.
We also participate in the District’s annual program “Warm Hands, Warm Heads, Warm Hearts”, along with water projects in Central America.
Our Rotary Club is committed to help address the ever-changing needs of the Brooklyn Center community as evidenced by its changing demographics. ![]() |
